Xbox Boss Talks Competition With GTA 6: There Are “Always Other Games”
Rockstar Games’ *Grand Theft Auto VI* is set to dominate the news cycle and sales charts with its massive launch, currently pegged for this November, assuming no production delays. The sheer scale of anticipation for the title has led to widespread speculation that many rival studios might be forced to shift their own release schedules to avoid direct conflict with what is expected to be a generation-defining moment.
However, Craig Duncan, the head of Xbox Game Studios, recently addressed this competitive atmosphere, suggesting that a busy release slate is simply business as usual in the games industry. In an interview with GamesRadar, Duncan offered a pragmatic viewpoint on navigating the landscape dominated by the forthcoming blockbuster.
He acknowledged that Rockstar is “going to do what they’re going to do,” but stressed that his focus remains internal. Duncan’s core directive as the leader of Xbox’s first-party developers is to prioritize doing “what we should do for the best of our games,” rather than constantly reacting to competitors. He pointed out that there are “always other games” competing for player engagement, and *GTA 6* is just the biggest one this year.
While Duncan maintains a measured approach, the financial projections underscore why this launch causes such concern. Analysts predict *GTA 6* could sell upwards of 40 million units and generate more than $3 billion in revenue in its first twelve months alone, confirming its status as far more than just “another game.”
