Amazon Prime Video’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of *God of War* has officially found its lead. In a compelling twist of casting news, the actor stepping into the massive shoes of the Ghost of Sparta, Kratos, is none other than Ryan Hurst—a voice familiar to recent players of the franchise.
Hurst, known to many television fans for his role as Opie Winston in the acclaimed series *Sons of Anarchy*, previously provided the powerful voice of Thor, the God of Thunder, in 2022’s BAFTA-nominated hit, *God of War Ragnarök*. Now, Hurst transitions from playing Kratos’s rival deity to embodying the Spartan warrior himself in the live-action format.
The Prime Video series, which has already received an impressive two-season commitment, is set to adapt the highly successful Norse mythology era of the games. The storyline will begin by following the plot of the 2018 title, centering on Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they undertake an emotional quest to scatter the ashes of their deceased wife and mother.
This monumental adaptation is being spearheaded by veteran showrunner and executive producer Ronald D. Moore, celebrated for his work on shows like *Battlestar Galactica* and *Outlander*. With filming scheduled to kick off this March in Vancouver, *God of War* joins Amazon’s stable of high-profile video game adaptations, building on the success established by the record-breaking *Fallout* series.
