It’s hard to believe it’s been over six years since *Animal Crossing: New Horizons* launched, and fans thought Nintendo might have finally wrapped up support. However, the company recently shocked the community by announcing both a huge, free 3.0 content update for all players, and an optional performance-enhanced Switch 2 upgrade. While both were initially slated for release tomorrow, January 15th, Nintendo had one last surprise up its sleeve: the substantial 3.0 content patch is officially live early.
If you jump onto your console, the update should begin downloading automatically. If it doesn’t trigger right away, simply navigate to the *ACNH* application on your Home Screen, press the Plus button, select “Software Update,” and then choose “Via the Internet.” This global early launch gives players immediate access to the biggest gameplay additions, including Kapp’n’s new pier hotel, the introduction of Slumber Islands, and a variety of new crossover furniture lines to decorate your island home.
It is important to note the distinction: the content update is live, but the premium Switch 2 Upgrade is not. This performance-focused paid upgrade, priced at $4.99 USD, which adds performance boosts, higher online player counts, and integrates Switch 2 specific features like GameChat and mouse controls, remains scheduled for its original release date tomorrow. Nevertheless, the main injection of new activities is here now, inviting players to dive back into their wholesome island oasis immediately.
