The search for the Ghost of Sparta is officially over. Amazon Prime Video’s highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the *God of War* saga has found its lead, casting veteran actor Ryan Hurst as the iconic protagonist, Kratos. This announcement comes with an amusing twist for fans: Hurst is already deeply familiar with the franchise’s Norse mythology, having previously lent his powerful voice to Kratos’s primary antagonist, Thor, in 2022’s critically acclaimed *God of War Ragnarök*.
Hurst, perhaps best known for his role as Opie Winston on *Sons of Anarchy*, now takes on the physically demanding challenge of portraying the God of War. The series is set to adapt the mythology established in the 2018 title, following Kratos and his son, Atreus, on their emotional quest to fulfill a final promise to Kratos’s late wife.
With Amazon demonstrating significant faith in the project by already ordering two seasons, production is gearing up quickly. Sci-fi television veteran Ronald D. Moore (*Battlestar Galactica*) is attached as showrunner and executive producer. The ambitious project is scheduled to begin filming this March in Vancouver. Following the massive success of other game adaptations like *Fallout*, all eyes will be on how Hurst translates the monumental power of Kratos to the screen.
