Larian Studios Draws Harder Line On AI, Clarifies Stance In Reddit AMA

Larian Studios CEO Swen Vincke, alongside several creative directors, recently took to Reddit for an AMA to discuss the studio’s highly anticipated new *Divinity* project. While setting expectations for the game, Vincke used the platform to deliver a definitive and uncompromising statement on one of the industry’s most contentious topics: generative AI. Responding to a direct fan query, Vincke made the studio’s position crystal clear, stating simply: “There is not going to be any GenAI art in *Divinity*.”

This strong clarification comes during a period of intense scrutiny over AI usage in game development. Larian felt the need to eliminate confusion after previous discussions about experimenting with AI tools for concept art were apparently misinterpreted. Vincke noted that the studio wants to remove any potential ambiguity regarding the origins of the artwork.

The industry context underscores the gravity of Larian’s decision. The consequences of undisclosed AI use were recently highlighted by the controversy surrounding *Clair Obscur: Expedition 33*, an RPG which had two major Indie Game Awards rescinded after it was revealed AI-generated assets had been included in the title, violating strict no-AI policies.

To ensure there is absolutely no doubt about the authenticity and human sourcing of their creative assets, Larian has decided to avoid generative AI entirely, even in early concept art stages. The studio is committed to ensuring that the artistic pedigree of the next *Divinity* game is fully verifiable.
