New World: Aeternum Will Be Shut Down In January 2027

Amazon Games has confirmed that its fantasy MMO, *New World: Aeternum*, will officially cease operations in early 2027. Despite being a relatively recent release—the console version, complete with the *Aeternum* subtitle and substantial updates, launched in 2024, following the 2021 PC debut—the game was removed from all digital storefronts on January 15. The publisher clarified in an official blog post that the final server shutdown date is firmly scheduled for January 31, 2027.

While new players cannot purchase the game, existing owners retain full access and can still install the title from their libraries until the final shutdown. Amazon Games confirmed that while the game stopped receiving new major content updates back in October, the team will continue to monitor overall performance and address critical bugs for the remainder of its lifetime. Players looking to spend their virtual wealth should note that the in-game currency, Marks of Fortune, will remain purchasable only until July 20, and all purchases of this currency are explicitly non-refundable. Anyone who recently bought the game should contact their specific platform’s customer support regarding potential refunds on the base game itself.

The announcement was accompanied by a sincere thank you to the dedicated community, with the developers stating they were “grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum.” This closure comes amid broader strategic shifts within Amazon’s gaming division, following significant corporate layoffs and a stated focus on their “biggest bets.”
