The latest *Resident Evil* Showcase, hosted by director Koshi Nakanishi, delivered a massive breakdown of the upcoming *Resident Evil Requiem*, confirming that Capcom is splitting the game’s focus to deliver both high-octane action and intense survival horror. The title will feature two playable protagonists: returning veteran Leon Kennedy and the less-experienced Grace Ashcroft.
For fans of the *Resident Evil 4 Remake*, Leon’s segments lean heavily into action. Since his combat expertise makes him too powerful for traditional horror, his gameplay is focused on dynamic fights and strategic targeting. His iconic knife parry returns, replaced now by a versatile hatchet that requires regular sharpening. Most notably, the footage confirmed a groundbreaking ability: Leon can disarm and utilize enemy weapons. We saw him parry a classic chainsaw attack, dispatch the enemy, and then immediately pick up the roaring weapon for himself—a franchise first for the popular agent.
In sharp contrast, Grace’s journey offers a return to pure terror, channeling the atmosphere of *RE2* and *RE7*. Nakanishi confirmed that Grace is far more vulnerable, facing scarce resources and slow, deliberate combat. Her sections emphasize evasion and feature a new, grisly crafting system where players must utilize zombie blood for necessary concoctions. Furthermore, players will have complete control over perspective, as both characters can be played in first- or third-person. Hardcore fans will be pleased to know that the Classic difficulty option brings back the dreaded ink ribbons for saving progress during Grace’s segments.
*Resident Evil Requiem* is set to launch on February 27 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch 2. Beyond gameplay, the showcase also teased partnerships with brands like Porsche and Hamilton, alongside details on the deluxe edition and GeForce NOW compatibility.
