Baldur’s Gate 3 Won’t Be Ported To Switch 2, Though Developer Larian Studios ‘Would Have Loved To’

Despite being one of the biggest critical and commercial hits of the last decade, *Baldur’s Gate 3* will not be joining the launch lineup for the Switch 2. After Larian Studios successfully brought the D&D epic to multiple consoles and achieved great portability success on the Steam Deck, many fans held out hope that the highly anticipated new Nintendo hardware would finally allow them to experience the game on the go.

Hopes were especially high since Larian recently confirmed that its previous game, *Divinity Original Sin II*, is making the jump to modern platforms, including the Switch 2. However, Larian delivered disappointing news during a recent Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session. When asked directly about a Switch 2 port for *BG3*, Game Director Swen Vincke gave a definitive answer that points toward external licensing issues.

“We would have loved to but it wasn’t our decision to make,” Vincke stated.

While Larian continues to support *Baldur’s Gate 3* with maintenance updates, the studio has famously concluded its relationship with *Dungeons & Dragons* IP owner Wizards of the Coast, opting instead to focus on independent development, including a new *Divinity* title. This complex licensing situation and Larian’s shift in focus appear to be the insurmountable hurdles that prevent the beloved RPG from ever landing on Nintendo’s newest handheld.
